This summer, I am out of town more than I am home; so, be prepared for a lot of “Snapped by G Travels” series posts! For my first trip of the summer, my family went to Washington D.C. for college visits and family fun. Besides the classic 8th grade trip to the country’s capital, this was my first time visiting the amazing city. This was a trip I will definitely remember as one of my all-time favorite vacations with my family; I would highly recommend it as a family trip to anyone!! Below I am sharing some of my favorite things we did in the city …
Sleep:
The Willard: For this trip we stayed at the Willard Hotel. It could not have been more perfect. For an old, classic hotel, I was very impressed by the size of the rooms. We were fully equipped to squeeze a family of 5 into two double beds, a lounge chair, and we even had a desk my sister and I took over to use as a vanity! 😉
The W Hotel: Another amazing option I would totally consider for a trip with a smaller family, a solo trip, or even a couples trip, is the W Hotel next door to the Willard. The food, decor, and atmosphere is truly unique and reminds me of an art-deco style.

Above is a photo of my sister and I hanging out in the lobby of The W. There were so many fun events going on here with multiple weddings, a DJ, and even a swim suit trunk show!
Eat:
The Peacock Cafe: While shopping in Georgetown, my family took a break to eat a nice, outdoor lunch at The Peacock Cafe. I ordered the Turkey Burger with Roasted Sweet Potatoes and obsessed over it! Honestly, I craved to go back the next day even. I would recommend Peacock if you are looking for a nice brunch too, my sister ordered the brunch and I must say…her’s was amazing. Dinner is served here as well, so you could go anytime of the day even!
Cafe Milano: If you are an Italian fan, while I have not been here, I hear Cafe Milano is amazing! It is located in the heart of Georgetown right next to Peacock with an amazing atmosphere as well.
Pinstripes: If you are looking for a more casual option in Georgetown, stop here for some good old bar food!
POV: This rooftop bar on the top of the W Hotel is like nothing I have ever seen before. The view over beautiful D.C. will take your breath away, you can even see The White House! The bar food is also great for a small meal, appetizers, lunch, or even just to get some drinks with friends.
The Hamilton: Due to connivence and the amazing food, my family went to the Hamilton for dinner and brunch while we were in D.C.; I would highly recommend both! This restaurant is right across from the Willard and The W Hotel with a very diverse menu ranging from sushi, kid food, to american favorites!
Georgetown Cupcakes: While there may be multiple Georgetown Cupcake locations..this one is the real deal. After trying cupcakes from multiple Georgetown Cupcake locations around the world, I can say the original is dramatically better! This is a definite must when you are in Georgetown for a cupcake, and a picture of course!
Pinkberry: My favorite frozen yogurt of all time..whenever I am in a city with Pinkberry-I make sure to stop there.
See:
The Newseum: My whole family adored this museum. It is by far my favorite museum I have been to in my life! This museum is filled with current topics revolved around media and news all over the globe. My favorite exhibit was the FBI Exhibit which showcased all the behind the scenes work the FBI does for us.
The Renwick: This art museum is free, very modern, and amazing to walk through! Talk a quick peak inside here if you find yourself in the area; you won’t regret it!
The Holocaust Museum: This museum is very moving and touching as you see the dramatic, real effects from the Holocaust.
Obviously the National Mall, including The Lincoln Memorial, The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, US Capital Building, Washington Monument, Korean War Memorial, World War II Memorial, the list goes on and on!
My family was lucky enough to tour the White House, thanks to our state representative John Yarmuth! For your chance to see The White House, call your state representative and they should be able to help you out too!
The Exorcist Steps: An iconic spot located at Georgetown University is definitely a photo-opt for any movie fans!
Shop:
In Washington, my favorite shopping is definitely in Georgetown! From a T.J. Maxx, lululemon, Cusp, Nike, Rent The Runway Store, Intermix, H&M, Zara, All Saints, rag & bone, and so much more! There is not much you can’t find in Georgetown! The GP logo made me feel as if Georgetown Park was calling my name…literally!
City Center: For higher end shopping, check out City Center ! Here you will find Burberry, Dior, Gucci, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Moncler, Vince, and so much more!
Sweat:
Soul Cycle: As you all know..I am a Soul Cycle Fanatic! I believe Soul Cycle is so much more than a workout..it’s truly a journey. If you find yourself in D.C., I strongly encourage you to try one of the 4 locations!! While I was there I went to Jared and Natalia’s classes; they were both amazing!
